Richard Spring, 51, of New Fairfield, pleaded guilty before Judge Peter Forman, to two counts of criminal sex act with a victim less than 17 in Dutchess County, confirmed Dutchess County Senior Assistant District Attorney Joelle Morabito-Cruz.

Spring will receive a maximum sentence of 15 years because of his guilty plea and will have to register as a sex offender, Morabito-Cruz said. He could have faced up to 25 years if the case went to trial.

A call to the state's child abuse hotline reporting sexual abuse led to Spring's arrest following an investigation by State Police Investigator Noreen Winterfeldt, Morabito-Cruz said.

During the investigation, it was determined that Spring subjected a teenage boy under the age of 17 to sexual contact multiple times on multiple dates in Pawling, police said. Spring is also accused of offering his victim marijuana and alcohol.

He was arrested April 20, 2017, and charged with four felony counts of a criminal sexual act and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was also charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after he was stopped by police on Milltown Road while operating his vehicle while under the influence of drugs.

Spring is scheduled to be sentenced on May 15.
